How to convert horizontal video to a vertical YouTube Short
If you already have a landscape clip, you do not need to re-edit it in a full NLE to publish as a Short. A simple crop-or-pad workflow is enough for many repurposing jobs.
Step-by-step
- Open Horizontal2Vertical and upload your video.
- Select Crop to fill if you want the Short to occupy the full 9:16 frame.
- Select Keep horizontal video if you want to preserve the full widescreen composition.
- Choose 1080 x 1920 output for the standard YouTube Shorts size.
- Add text overlays if the clip needs a headline, quote, or label.
- Export the MP4 locally in the browser.
When crop works best
Crop works best when the important subject sits near the center or when you are clipping interviews, reactions, or product demos where a tighter frame improves focus.
When padding works best
Padding is usually the safer choice for screen recordings, gameplay, wide shots, and videos where cutting away the left or right edge would remove meaning.
